Our Safe Shopping Guarantee protects you while you shop, so you'll never need to worry about your personal information.
How We Protect You While You Shop
To ensure the most secure shopping experience, we use only the latest and strongest Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) via CloudFlare, and Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) tokenization system.
While many sites only use SSL on the shopping cart and login pages, we use it on every single page on our site. SSL technology encrypts all your information (including passwords and addresses) while you’re shopping on mtncitycandles.com.
If you opt to save* your credit card details at checkout, the PCI DSS tokenization system encrypts and protects your card number with the credit card processor. In addition to its enhanced security, this system is more convenient—making purchases on your mobile device is easier than ever, and your credit card details are pre-filled when you return to shop with us.
*saving CC details is currently disabled.
Zero Liability - No Matter What
Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank cannot hold you liable for more than $50 of fraudulent charges. If your bank holds you liable for any of that $50, we will cover the liability for you up to the full $50. *See details below
*We will only cover this liability if the unauthorized use of your credit card resulted, through no fault of your own, from purchases made on our website while using the secure server. In the extremely unlikely event that an unauthorized charge does occur, you must first notify your credit card provider in accordance with their reporting rules and procedures.
Do you keep my credit card information?
No. We do not store credit card numbers in our system. Your payments are processed via Paypal, Square, or Stripe (apple pay & google pay), which makes your credit card information completely inaccessible to Mountain City Candle Co. When someone submits their credit card information, the processor gateway replaces the credit card number with an alternative set of values, known as tokens. Once these tokens reach the processor itself, they get “detokenized” and revert back to the original number. So if you choose to save your credit card information for a faster checkout, it actually means the processor keeps these tokens, the ones used to disguise the card, on file.
Do you share my information?
No. Mountain City Candle Co. will never share, sell or disclose any information to anyone for any reason.
What can I do to best protect myself while shopping online?
You can easily see if you have a secure connection by looking for the letters "https" in the URL at the top of your web browser. Most browsers will also display a padlock icon in the address bar to indicate a secure SSL connection. All major browsers (such as Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari) support SSL technology. To make sure you're getting the best protection, we recommend using the latest version of your browser software and downloading security updates as they become available.
What is SSL technology?
Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is a standard security technology for establishing an encrypted link between a server and a client - in our case, our mtncitycandles.com website and your Internet browser. We purchase an SSL certificate each year that encrypts the data that goes from your computer to our website, and back. Every time you enter your information into our site, SSL makes sure it can security travel from your browser to our online software system.
